Quotes

A cached quote of the hour for dashboards and public API consumers.

2 min read Updated 2026-09-07 #quotes#dashboard#widgets#api

Quotes supplies one motivational quote and author at a time. It is a small, API-only application designed for the Cloud dashboard and integrations that need the same quote-of-the-hour payload.

Use Quotes

  • Add the quote widget to a dashboard for a compact rotating message.
  • Read the public quote endpoint when another surface needs the current value.
  • Reuse the cached result during the hour instead of fetching a new quote for every view.

Quotes has no separate application workspace. If its external provider is temporarily unavailable, the dashboard widget shows an unavailable state rather than stale or invented content.

Understand the Quotes model

Resource or surface Responsibility
Quote The current text and attributed author
Hourly cache Reuses one valid provider result for up to one hour
Dashboard widget Presents the current quote or a clear unavailable state
Public API Returns the same quote payload for HTTP consumers

The application validates provider responses before caching them. Cache failures do not prevent a valid provider response from being returned.

How Quotes fits Cloud

Quotes owns provider access, response validation, caching behavior, and its public API. Cloud supplies the application runtime, settings, logging, rate limiting, the dashboard widget contract, and OpenAPI publication.

Find detailed product help

Quotes has no workspace or separate in-product Help panel because there is nothing to configure in the app. Developers can read Dashboard widgets and Public API surface for the shared contracts used by its two public surfaces.

Inspect Quotes from the terminal

Quotes does not register a dedicated CLI module. Use the live API catalog to inspect its generated HTTP contract:

bash
cld api-docs operations quotes --json
cld api-docs spec quotes > quotes.openapi.json

Run cld api-docs help for schema search and operation details. The public quote endpoint is still rate-limited; API discovery does not change that runtime behavior.

Deployment requirements

Connect a coding agent

The Cloud skill provides compact working instructions. MCP supplies exact current documentation when details matter.

CLI command
bunx skills add https://docs.example.com

This command installs the working instructions published by this website in the selected coding agent.

For exact, current details, also connect the MCP server through one of the agent tabs.

Installation uses the open-source Vercel Skills CLI.

The skill and MCP complement each other: the skill describes workflows, while MCP supplies current documentation.
